Perspective is important

  1. There is a certain hope that given the three volcanoes on the Big Island that it would be more dramatic (picture left)...sort of like what you'd see in one of those disaster films.

    I didn't mention the underwater volcano off-shore (#4), whatever they call it. It should get honorable mention, but nobody can see it.

  3. the new volcano is called Loihi - not going to break sea level any time soon. To put things into local perspective, the front page of the local newspaper in Hilo has been primarily local events, like the Merrie Monarch Festival, etc. They have been covering the current eruption on page 2 or 3 for the most part. They're kinda used to Pele acting out ... and one nice thing about Hilo is that it's mostly upwind - it's the resorts on Kona side that get most of the vog ...

  4. Although the MSM would love to see the island disappear in a plume of smoke and ash then provide hysterical reporting don't expect a rerun of the 1968 epic: "Krakatoa: East of Java".

  5. MSM is patiently await that significant landslide into the depth so they can report on the terrible tidal wave that will hit the northwest US.

  6. Reminds me of the time the Exxon Valdez wrecked and everyone thought all of Alaskan waters were covered in oil.
